BRACES

  • I'm using a metallic fixed appliance. Can i do the mewing ?

  • Retainers can act as a break for further development and gaining more oral expansion. As you need to widen the palate in order to widen the maxilla and achieve bone change and not just muscular changes associated with chewing and mewing.

Essix Retainers are similar to Invisalign retainers in that they are effective in holding the teeth in a specific position, without taking up any space in the roof of the mouth. These types of retainers are a great option. Expansion is very limited though.

On the other hand, Hawley Retainers occupy more space in the roof of the mouth, which can be uncomfortable and make it difficult to put your tongue on the roof of your mouth.

Fixed retainers, which go behind the teeth, are another option. They are typically used for the upper four teeth and the lower six or eight teeth. While they won't prevent you from widening your dental arch, they can act as a reminder to put your tongue on the roof of your mouth.
